Artist Statement
C.K. Williams's love of fiber arts was inherited from her two grandmothers, both of whom possessed the old-world skills that enabled them to produce beautiful fiber pieces cherished by subsequent generations. Of all the fiber arts, weaving, at once both simple and complex, with its seemingly unending possibilities, holds a special place in C.K.’s heart. Texture, pattern, and color effects are determined by the mind and hands of the weaver, yet surprises abound. This spirit of discovery, even in the most mundane weaves, is what prompts C.K. to weave. She hopes she lives up to her grandmothers’ standards.
Much of C.K.’s time is spent in her “loom room,” which is crammed with yarns, books, fabrics, and needlework tools; sometimes her intrepid husband and cat venture into it.
