Biography

Bruce MacDonald is a self-taught artist who was born near Boston in 1944. He moved to the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts in 1956.

He has divided ways to visualize, one being influenced by the 15th century Dutch landscape painters, the barbizons and some of the 20th century American realists. The other is a form of social realism using cartoon-as-art to depict his expression of the late twentieth century human condition, based in the history of social satire/commentary from Goya, Hogarth, Daumier to the German Expressionists and the American Levines (Jack and David). His realistic landscapes are a sharp contrast to his unique style of social realism.

Mr. MacDonald's work has been featured in illistration and advertising for Olgilvy & Mather, "Sports Illustrated", "Ski" magazine", Heekin and Associates, "Upcountry" magazine, U-MASS, General Electric and others, including eight children's books for Richard C. Owens Publishers, Inc.
